The Friendly Sons'
Proud History

Irish love sprouts from Hawaiian roots

The Society was organized and registered in Honolulu on March 17th, 1955, with THE OFFICE OF THE TREASURER OF THE TERRITORY OF HAWAII. Four years later, The Territory of Hawaii became the State of Hawaii.

The objects and purposes of the corporation are to be charitable and benevolent and in general much in line with the initial organization founded in Philadelphia in 1771, interestingly enough, five years prior to the Declaration of Independence.

For nearly fifty years the members of the Society have conducted well-attended monthly meetings, and gradually defined a "Social/Educational" which was implemented and expanded as the years went by.

Today, we have a three-prong-effort:

1) The Educational Program
2) The yearly Emerald Ball
3) The St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick has met its obligations from day one, and never issued any stock. No part of its income, assets or earnings were ever distributed to its members, directors or officers, except for services actually rendered to the corporation.

Gradually, over the years, our Educational fund has grown from $200.00 to $6,000.00 per year.

Our Emerald Ball has become a fund raising enjoyable and elegant evening in the social life of Hawaii attended by members and guests.

The Honolulu St. Patrick's Day Parade-which always takes place on the very day of St. Patrick-has become one of the most notable events of the State of Hawaii and has been funded and organized by the Society from 1956 year one.

Following the parade, the Friendly Sons and their Irish-on-that-day friendly friends have also gathered by the poolside of one of the hotels in Waikiki, to celebrate the day and raise funds for our Educational Program.

So now, we ask you, Sons of Erin from everywhere, to join us and sign up if you haven't yet.
